Andrew Donaldson on Colin Cotterill and Book Signings in the Digital Age
Colin Cotterill is one of the featured authors at this year’s Franschhoek Literary Festival. Andrew Donaldson of the Sunday Times, who will also attend the upcoming festival, says that Cotterill’s latest book Killed at the Whim of a Hat, is the one book you should read this week.
On the issue of books signings into the digital age, Donaldson wonders, how do you autograph a Kindle?
A departure from Cotterill’s popular Dr Siri crime series, this one introduces a new protagonist, Jimm Juree, a Thai reporter who stumbles into a baffling mystery surrounding a pair of skeletons found in a buried camper van. More murders follow. Add to this various oddball characters, like a camp local policeman, lady boys and weird family members, and you have a comic affair with an exotic sense of place.Cotterrill will be visiting South Africa next month, and is one of the star attractions at the 2011 Franschhoek Literary Festival. Other writers attending include Zakes Mda, Peter Godwin, Douglas Rogers, Barbara and Anna Trapido, Janice Galloway, Charles van Onselen, Ivan Vladislavic, Tim Couzens, Justin Cartwright, Imraan Coovadia, the list goes on and on.
