Three Poets perform their work at FLF

Lebo Mashile, Ronelda Kamfer and Blaq Pearl

Ronelda Kamfer, Blaq Pearl and Lebo Mashile captivated an audience by reading and performing their poetry at the Franschhoek Literary Festival.

The audience was stunned into silence by the raw emotion in Kamfer’s Afrikaans poetry. She read from her debut, Noudat Slapende Honde, which deals with the difficulties of life on the Cape Flats.

Blaq Pearl is another poet from the Cape Flats, and this is what inspires her quick-paced, almost rap-like performance poetry.

Lebo Mashile has a commanding stage-presence and she imparts profound insights with her rhythmic performance poetry. In a poem about the extreme disparities in South Africa, she said: “How is it possible that people who walk on gold do not know how to read.”
